Shizuoka’s rich history of craftsmanship, cultivated since the Edo period, comes alive at Takumishuku. Six workshops circle a serene courtyard, each offering hands-on experiences that connect you to Japan’s artisan heritage.
Craft elegant flower vases using the intricate techniques of Suruga Bamboo Lattice Ware. Create lacquered chopsticks or give fabrics deep indigo hues using traditional dyeing methods. In the pottery and woodworking studios, natural materials become the canvas for your imagination. Transform them into one-of-a-kind pieces guided by skilled artisans.

Unique to Takumishuku is the Tamiya Model Workshop—the only place in the world where you can craft with Shizuoka’s famed plastic model maker anytime you want. You can even participate in exclusive collaborations, like mina perhonen stencil designs or Kengo Kuma’s wooden stools, and add a contemporary touch to your traditional crafting experience.
